Take Action – Recognizing the Reunification of Jerusalem

Fifty years ago, the State of Israel reunified Jerusalem, which has been the spiritual center of Judaism for more than 3,000 years.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of reunification, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) have introduced a resolution acknowledging this important anniversary. The resolution “extends its friendship and hopes for peace to the residents of Jerusalem and the people of Israel.”

Between 1948 and 1967, Israeli citizens and Jews of any nationality could not access Jerusalem or the Western Wall. Immediately after regaining control of all of Jerusalem, the State of Israel has ensured that people of all faiths have access to their holy sites within the city. This resolution celebrates Israel’s unification of Jerusalem, and affirms that the city should remain accessible to people of all faiths.
