Washington, DC – Today the Israeli-American Coalition for Action (IAC for Action) commended the U.S. Senate for its passage of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act. The bill passed through the Senate by unanimous consent last Friday, and has now been referred to the House Judiciary Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Bob Goodlatte.

“Today the United States Senate sent a strong message that the U.S. Government will not stand idly by as we witness an alarming rise of anti-Semitism on our campuses. The IAC for Action strongly supports the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which will improve the Department of Education’s ability to address incidents of anti-Semitism,” said IAC for Action Chairman Shawn Evenhaim.

Evenhaim added, “The IAC for Action commends the Senate co-sponsors of this legislation, including Sen. Tim Scott, Sen. Robert Casey, Jr., Sen. Ron Wyden, Sen. Lindsey Graham, and Sen. Michael Bennet. We also laud the vision and leadership of the House co-sponsors of the Anti-Semitism Awareness Act, which include Rep. Peter Roskam, Rep. Ted Deutch, Rep. Nita Lowey, Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Rep. Eliot Engel, and Rep. Steve Israel.”

To go into effect, the bill must pass be passed by the conclusion of the 114th Congress.
